Tous les moyens sont bons pour détecter les années propices aux grands incendies forestiers (ici Extreme Wildfire Years) afin d’en minimiser les conséquences, notamment pour les communautés autochtones. Au cours de son doctorat et dans cet article publié dans Écoscience, Dorian Gaboriau et l’équipe de recherche composée de Hugo Asselin, Adam A. Ali, Christelle Hély et Martin Girardin ont déterminé les seuils de température et d’humidité du combustible qui prédisposent aux grands feux dans le nord-ouest du Canada. Ces seuils peuvent servir à mieux anticiper l’occurrence future de grands feux pour prévoir des mesures de mitigation et d’adaptation.
