2022 Annual meeting of the International Research Network on Cold Forests
La rencontre annuelle du Réseau International de Recherche sur les forêts froides (IRN) s’est déroulée les 6, 7 et 8 octobre derniers à Joensuu, School of Forestry Sciences, University of Eastern Finland, réunissant une cinquantaine d’étudiant(e)s, chercheuses et chercheurs de tous horizons.
Au total, 30 présentations retransmises en ligne et disponibles ici, axées sur l’écologie forestière et les bio indicateurs, la biogéochimie et le cycle du carbone, la dendrochronologie et l’écologie des feux, ainsi que la biogéographie végétale, ont permis de dresser un portrait détaillé des recherches en cours à l’IRN Forêts Froides.
Les équipes des professeurs finlandais Tuomas Aakala et Jari Kouki nous ont ensuite présentées les enjeux de la ré-introduction des feux de forêts pour un aménagement forestier durable en Finlande, ainsi que les enjeux liés à la conservation des ‘kelo’ trees (www.kelokko.fi) pour la dynamique et la biodiversité forestière dans le magnifique Parc Naturel de Patvinsuo. Ces arbres peuvent rester morts sur pied plus de 200 ans. Ils n’ont pas encore révélé tous les mystères qui planent autour de leur formation ! Rendez-vous l’année prochaine pour en savoir plus.
Dans la tradition finlandaise, un sauna et quelques sauts dans le Lac Pyhäselka ont conclu la rencontre !
2022 Annual meeting of the International Research Network on Cold Forests
The annual meeting of the International Cold Forest Research Network (IRN Cold Forests) was held on October 6, 7 and 8 at the School of Forestry Sciences, University of Eastern Finland, bringing together more than fifty students and researchers.
A total of 30 presentations now available online here, focusing on forest ecology and bio-indicators, biogeochemistry and carbon cycling, dendrochronology and fire ecology, and plant biogeography, provided a detailed picture of the ongoing research at the IRN Cold Forests !
Professors Tuomas Aakala’s and Jari Kouki’s teams then presented the challenges of reintroducing forest fires for sustainable forest management in Finland, as well as the those of conserving kelos trees (www.kelokko.fi) for forest dynamics and biodiversity in the beautiful Patvinsuo National Park. Kelo trees have not yet revealed the mysteries of their origins! See you next year for more of their stories.
In the Finnish tradition, a sauna and some jumps in the Lake Pyhäselka concluded the meeting!
