Dear colleagues, friends, members of the International Research Network on Cold Forests,

It is our pleasure to announce the upcoming congress that will take place in Quebec, at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue FERLD research station.
The congress held from October 20 to 26 2019, includes days for pre- and post-congress field tours. The congress is devoted to three overarching themes :

(A) Effects of climate change and human activities on cold forests in the Northern Hemisphere

(B) Progress in understanding climate and vegetation disturbance linkages

(C) Implications for management of cold forests

In connection to the congress, we plan to arrange a special feature in one of the forest ecology journals where paper contributions may be published. We suggest you consider not only attending the congress but also contributing to the special feature. This opportunity should be of particular interest for doctoral students since it is envisioned to give them a fast track towards a peer-reviewed publication in a good journal.

Funding

The policy of the IRN on Cold Forests is based on :

(a) Adoption of « no registration fee » policy
(b) « Net cost approach », which means that participants cover their own costs
(c) Limited amount of funding made available for PhD students joining the event. This funding is contingent upon students leading a full-fledged submission to the special feature.
