BIOGRAPHY

My research focuses on the development of multi-century to multi-millenial annually resolved tree-ring proxies to reconstruct climate, discharges and natural disturbances to support ecosystem-based forest management and risk management related to natural hazards (flood, droughts). I particularly explore how novel applications of flood records from tree rings can improve our understanding of paleofloods and their climatic drivers to improve the regional hydroclimatic predictive trajectories in the context of climate change. Some of my research branched out into locating and preserving unique natural tree-ring archives of our past hydroclimate. I also study how hydroclimate variability and extremes affect boreal forest ecology and landscapes with a specific interest into riparian and lacustrine forests.

Postdoctoral project :

Since 2023 I’m using bristlecone pine from the Rio Grande Headwaters region (Southwestern USA) to develop a temperature reconstruction spanning 2000+ years and augmented with updated and new hydroclimate reconstructions. The objectives is to evaluate long-term regional temperature and hydroclimate relationships to assess the influence of temperature on the frequency and severity of historical drought, as well as its impact on montane forest ecosystems. This project combines systematic dendrochronological sampling of living and remnant trees with existing collections, micro-climate measurements, and Vaganov-Shaskin process modeling, with instrumental and dendroclimatic analyses.
